An example of a thriller opening scene which demonstrates the conventions of a thriller opening is "Seven"
Silhouette of hand.
We are first introduced with a silhouette of a persons hand which creates a sense of mystery, which implies that the movie is going to be filled with unexpected situations, as-well as tuning in the audience to the film even more since they want to find out the mystery of who is turning the pages over.
Sharp Object.
This opening of the thriller implies that the movie is going to be a scary, terrifying, bloodcurdling type of thriller as their are diegetic sounds of people screaming, which shows that there are people going through a lot of trauma at that time, thus making the audience get more into the film, since they'd like to know why that person is screaming. The loud sound effects (ghostly winds) also build up this tension,as these type of sounds scare the audience the most. Also the random cut between scenes give the audience a sense of shock as they weren't prepared for it, therefore showing another type of convention of thriller opening. The pace of the opening is also very slow, which builds an eerie type of effect, consequently also helping to show the films type of genre. Also the props they use such as sharp razors emphasizes the danger in this movie, as these sharp objects could foreshadow someone is going to get hurt in the near future.
