RESEARCH - example of a thriller opening (the butterfly effect)
The butterfly effect is an example of a thriller and i
think it does a good job of representing what the opening of a thriller
movie should be like. It immediately introduces the main character
played by Ashton Cutcher which is a good technique to engage the
audience right from the start. The suspenseful music is used to build
tension and to indicate that there will be an element of earyness to the
film. There are not many titles however the production company and
distributors ident is shown along with the film name in front of an
interesting animation. Ashton Kutcher is doing something which is not
100% recognised by the audience and he looks distressed. This is like
the 'hook' as we want to know what's going on and why it's going on. The
editing alternates from slow to fast paced and vice versa meaning the
film may have a confusing storyline. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3nYaL74EbM
