Thriller films openings usually introduce main charcters and provides teasers to "hook" the audience. It establishes the genre and sets the pace and tone for the film.
They are often accompanied with intense music that not only helps build tension but gives an indication of the mood that will be portrayed throughout the film. A lot of thriller openings contain dimly lit shots (to create a sense of mystery) with props relating to the story of the film connected via a montage-style editing. The openings include titles that show the producer's ident, distributor, director and stars; they are shown either in sync with opening e.g. "Se7en" or before it e.g. "Phsyco".
