RESEARCH - Film Audiences

When a film is made, it is cleverly targeted to entertain a certain target audience. The age certificate usually indicates the general age it's aimed towards however this is usually broader than the actual target audience. For example a movie may have an age certificate rating of 12+. This means you should be over 12 years old to watch it however 12 onwards is too broad. Most thrillers are commonly aimed at those above the age of 15 however this usually depends on the thriller subgenre.

Example:
This is a film poster/dvd cover for the recent thriller 'Taken 2' release. The appearence gives away alot about the target audience. The actor shown looks relatively old(above 30) indicating that the film would be suited best to an older generation. The gun in his hand and the background appears dangerous and very action based which may not be suitable for youths. The writing used is formal and taken 2 is printed in red, again representing danger. Nothing on the image appears fun or adventurous which is usually what a film created for young people is based around.
