Over the Christmas holidays i watched the thriller 'Flight Plan' and
made notes on some of the conventions we have learnt so far. Firstly i
noticed that the sub genre is a suspense/crime thriller as the plot
revolves around solving a mystery which is finding the main characters
missing daughter on the plane. I believe the target audience ranges from
around 16-40 as it is widely engaging and there are no aspects which
indicate a very young or very old age, it is quite general. There is
piercing and suspenseful music when suspicious events are occurring for
example when she notices her daughter has gone missing. It turns more
dramatic when action kicks in like when she is running to the pilots
door for help and when she attacks the suspected criminal. Throughout
the movie dark lighting is used which connotes danger and darkness.
There are alot of close ups to highlight the characters emotion which
engages the audience as it allows them to sympathise when necessary.
Special effects are also used such as slow motion visuals and other
sophisticated camerawork. At the end of the movie the mystery gets
solved and the 'bad guy' is killed which follows the common convention
of a suspense/crime thriller.
